American money

This is what Teri's 4th graders posted for me to help me out :)

New York, New York

Well guys, after an 8hr flight to Hawaii and then another 8hr flight to New York, I finally made it here safe and sound  - WOW, what an AMAZING city!!! I've never had the pleasure of being in 'the States' before and it is exactly as I imagined it would be.

I've been a busy little bee since arriving 2 days ago.  I've seen The statue of libery, Empire State Building, Times Square, The Museum of Natural History and am about to go to the Metropolitian Museum of Art shortly.

I've spoken to Teri a few times each day since being here. Her kids are SOOOOO excited about my arrival.  I had a roaring welcome from her 4th graders on my first day as they yelled down the phone at me :)  Yesterday, I texted her to say that I wish her little kids had taught me about money before I came as I was finding the coins difficult to understand.  Literally 2 minutes later, there was a notification and they had drawn out a chart to show me what the coins looked like and how many there were in $1 US. Isn't technology amazing!  I am so looking forward to meeting them all next week.

I plan to Skype you all on your first Monday back. I'll of met Teri by then and I know I'll have SO MUCH to tell you. I'm excited about seeing you all and sharing my news.

Catch you soon

Mrs Parker :)

Well so far I've been showing all the year 7s around BIS because its such a big school. The year 7s are doing well to remember. In class we've been working on some work about ourselves like poems, dossiers and name tags, we've started our tech some of us are in wood work as well and we been keeping an eye on the year 7s so they don't hurt themselves. Mrs Parker is such a cool teacher she's already been teaching us cool stuff. We've had two tests already but oh well. We've been using the laptops and i'm having a good time in this class. Ive made tones of new friends and they have great personalities and im with two of my best friends Tehya and Amber and thats how great my week has gone.

amazing tinga tinga art

Hi guys, the last few weeks room 5 have been working on tinga tinga art which is art where you use tiny circles. Take a look at some of the pictures!

So how do you like the pictures? They are the first ones finished.  The way the ting tinga art started was when a man called Edward Saidi Tingatinga drewpieces of art and tried to sell them to tourists at the airport. No-one would by his art work because it was so plain and dull and colourless so he perfected the art style that is now called 'Tinga Tinga'. He returned to that same airport and there were people crowding him from every corner wanting to buy his art work because it was vivacious and colourful. It was so popular he had to teach his family how to make 'tinga tinga'.  Unfortunately after a few months, Edward died leaving his family to the buisness. They carried on so that he could live in peace knowing that he would be remembered for something he truly believed in.  Anyway enough of the sob story comment on how much you like the tinga tinga art and maybe try it yourself it is fun.
