Narratives

Room 5 are learning about narrative's. Narratives are made up stories e.g little red riding hood, 3 little pigs and Goldilocks and the 3 bears. When you write a narrative you need to include an orientation, a complication, a sequence of events, resolution and a moral [optional].To keep the reader reading, you need to use descriptive language. You also need a plot, a setting and some characters. When you write a narrative you need to use punctuation and paragraphs. If you plan to write a perfect narrative, you need to include all of these things.

Whenua Iti

Whenua Iti was really scary but really fun. There was one thing that was really horrible and that was the high ropes. We were all secured on a rope and harness (not at the same time) and we climbed up this ladder and up a pole. There were 2 places you could start but I'll type about the 1 I started on. Now, trying to start something scary, thats bad. But when your starting on these 10m high wobbly platforms held up by these skinny little wires, thats when I started to panic. It took a while but I made the first jump. It was really truly horrible when I did because when I landed on it I slipped. I was fine though. The next jump took a little less time, and after that I stopped looking and just went for it. The platforms started getting closer after that and soon I was on the giant log. That bit was easy as it wasn't wobbling like the platforms. I walked to the end of the log and back into the middle so I could come down. Another bit that worried quite a few people. It's not every day you get asked to slide off a 10m high log. I now realise why people kiss the ground!

What we've been up to....

Room 5 have been making things for purple cake day like Making paper mandalas to decorate the school. We have been making these by Painting A4 pieces of paper on one side, and putting dye on the other side. On purple cake day, we hung these up around the canteen and sold cupcakes. We earned $625.30c By selling the cupcakes. All the money goes to Haiti and Nepal. Thank you to all those that bought a cupcake!

We went to Whenua iti not that long ago, and gave ourself challenges. We got split into groups and headed off to the courses. There were three that we had to do. There was one where one person was on a harness and lifted into the air by our other team mates, and one where you where in a harness ( again ) and had to jump to a metal bar from about ten metres above the ground (well, maybe not that high, But felt like it!) The last one was where you had to be hooked up to a harness,(obviously) and stand on a platform in the air. You then needed to jump to a metal bar about a metre away. The others would hold your weight while you jumped.

We trained for weeks for swimming sports but finally it came. We all went over to Nayland pool in our team colours. We all had to squish together on the concrete steps that we had to sit on. First was backstroke. The year seven boys, then the year eight boys, the year seven girls and so on. Then we had breast stroke. The same filing followed, like year groups. Free stile and then butterfly , and finally, the relays. Everybody was cheering through out the races.

We had interschool swimming sports about a week later. There was Broadgreen, Waimea, Nelson and Prep Intermediates at Nayland pool. Every now and then classes from Broadgreen would pop through to the pool to watch a few races until they needed to be back at school.

That is all for now, but hopefully there will be more to write about later on in the term.
